About My Work

I use bee’s wax as a medium to not only paint with, but to sculpt with as well. I embed materials into my work... everything from wood, wire, sand, fibers and more. For me, bee’s wax is the perfect artistic preservative to create with. Painting with bees wax has been in existence since the time of the Persians.

When I add colour to the wax, I use several sources. Pure powder pigments mix beautifully. Oil paints and oil sticks are also perfect companions to bees wax. They all layer and fuse with a lustrous transparency.

Texture is one of my favourite reasons for working with bees wax. It’s instant and the build up of fused layers creates endless possibilities for texture to grow on the art board.

Nature has a way of speaking to us all. In my paintings, natural items like tree material, stones and various types of wood all bring the language of the earth to you. Most of all … I want the viewer to be drawn in to all the details, to all of the elements that are interlinked and bound. Like our lives and nature.

Play

I would be remiss if I did not say that “Play” is an important part of creating for me. I believe when one starts to play, serious creativity can be the result. It may sound like a contradiction in terms, but play has become a strong component in both the corporate world and creative world where new ideas and new ways of doing things are sought after. I invite you to play more … after all, that’s what we have all been waiting for, isn’t it? An invitation. Consider yourself invited!

Soft serene scapes let you float away on the seas or meadows. Mixed materials can be found all tied up, such as twigs and branches, as if some kind of small forest creatures have been busy constructing … and you have come along and discovered their treasures.

The natural world reminds us that nature is at work creating, artfully, sometimes magical, sometimes dark, worlds for you to get lost in, and enjoy.
